5 Great Books You Should Read

I don’t consider myself as having an obsession with books but I really love reading. I wasn’t much of a reader in my Junior High School days but after my first year in Senior High school, I really went all out reading a lot of novels. The first time I bought a book, I felt so fulfilled with no regard to money spent. Here I present to you the top 5 books that you might really enjoy.

Digital Fortress- Dan Brown

Dan Brown over the years has shown he’s the best thriller writer and my favourite author of all time. I would have put his books in this top 5 but that would be unfair to the other authors I’ve read. Digital Fortress was his first book I read, and the first I read on this list. The background of this story is based on the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombing. Ensei Tankando, affected by this catastrophe, sends out a code to the National Security Agency (NSA) which their invincible code-breaking machine (TRANSLTR) couldn’t break.  The inability to decrypt the code meant that all national secrets were going to be made public. Susan Fletcher, a cryptographer is then tasked with breaking the codes and then later on the battle for her life and the life of the man she loves. A carefully structured book, step by step description of events, proper characterization and chapter-after-chapter suspense make this book my number 1 favourite.  Download ebook here

Heartbreaker- Julie Garwood

This could easily have been number 1 in another life. Julie Garwood literally nailed this mystery and I was on the edge the whole time. The story starts with a notorious serial killer daringly visiting a confessional to ask for forgiveness for his next victim, (the priest’s sister Laurant). He proceeds to the Police Department to leave a copy of clues for Nick Buchanan to get him to work on the case. With no idea who this wanted serial killer, their whole world had changed and made it difficult for them to live in their town. Detective Nick promises to help Laurant get through this and with time he gets closer to Laurant and so does danger. J. Garwood did so well to hide the identity of this serial killer until the ending chapters and the end to end suspense kept me glued to this book until I was done. Epic piece! Click here to download

Lock & Key

Now Lock & Key is a different category and before I read it, I had only read mystery books and so even after being urged to read this book, I was reluctant. I like a mystery because of the suspense; it was difficult getting bored reading mystery books. While reading this book, I didn’t find it boring at all. On the contrary, it was entertaining and soothing for me. I loved the content and Sara Dessen’s simple language made this book one of my favourites. This book is about Ruby, a girl who lived alone in their yellow house, with her sister now married and her mother gone and probably never return. Authorities catch up with her and she moves in with her sister Cora and her husband Jamie, who is so humble it’s sometimes hard to believe he’s a very successful man. A new life, fancy house, a private school and a boy she loves but Ruby still finds it hard to trust. With time, Ruby gets past all these challenges and begins to enjoy her life. It’s really amazing how a writer makes a normal life with little drama so interesting to read.  I love this book and I’m sure you would too. Download here

The Lost Symbol

Another classic by the master himself Dan Brown as a follow-up to his famous and probably his best book yet,  Da Vinci Code. Had it not been full of views I don't ascribe to, it'd have been one of my favourite. The Lost Symbol is a fast-paced thriller, suspense, and action that'd leave you wanting for more. Danbrown.com gives a summary of the story...

As the story opens, Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon is summoned unexpectedly to deliver an evening lecture in the U.S. Capitol Building. Within minutes of his arrival, however, the night takes a bizarre turn. A disturbing object–artfully encoded with five symbols–is discovered in the Capitol Building. Langdon recognizes the object as an ancient invitation… one meant to usher its recipient into a long-lost world of esoteric wisdom. When Langdon’s beloved mentor, Peter Solomon–a prominent Mason and philanthropist–is brutally kidnapped, Langdon realizes his only hope of saving Peter is to accept this mystical invitation and follow wherever it leads him. Langdon is instantly plunged into a clandestine world of Masonic secrets, hidden history, and never-before-seen locations–all of which seem to be dragging him toward a single, inconceivable truth.
