Over the past few years, I've slowly began to love Pro Evolution Soccer and what they bring to the table each year. PES 2018 for me was a big milestone for the franchise in making a statement with the engine change. It wasn't the best soccer game overall though. With the end of their partnership with UEFA, I hope Konami uses that as an opportunity to improve in the 2019 version. Here are some of the things that if featured in the new game, would be a success for the game.
Post-match Player Ratings.
Since I started playing PES from 2015, player ratings have always been an issue for me. They were unrealistic and this makes it difficult to track player progress. Every player who doesnt score gets a rating ranging from 5-6.5, sometimes depending on whether the person assisted the goal. I find my defenders always in that range although the performed well in the game, be it defending, aerial ball wins or tackles. I'm particularly concerned about this I hope it's fixed in PES 2019. A game where only goal scorers are given high ratings without regards to the other equally performing players is just not as satisfying
Average Player Rating. Not realistic enough |
Dynamic Weather
Another issue with PES over the years has been capturing dynamic weather in their game. Football matches are played at different times of the day. In PES, the only time options are day or night. That's so limited. I want to see match at noon like early kickoffs, afternoon, overcast and late kickoffs. This adds to the realism we want to feel in this game, as well as variety and as such making the game no so boring to look. It's also completely appalling that PES has never had snow as one of the weather conditions. It's almost as if Snow is not a significant part of the weather. PES 2019 should definitely include the snow option
Cut scenes overhaul
I think PES fans deserve cut scenes overhaul in the new game. Don't we hate having to see the same celebrations, or new signing be it player or manager year after year?. PES 2018 saw quite some change in this, with the inclusion of dressing room address by coach before a derby. Would want to see more, like player walking back to position after scoring, new best player awards cut scene, new trophy celebrations, new end of match cut scenes, etc. We need more to make the game more attractive.
Become A Legend mode
This is my favourite mode in any sports game. It gives you an opportunity to have a feel of being a footballer. The best game that portrayed this was PES 2013. Since then it's being such a disappointing downgrade. I think the "justify your inclusion" should be included, rather than just signing the player into a random team. So that performance coupled with the difficulty would determine which club you played. There should be on-pitch training drills that the player should participate to generate skill points to increase ability ratings unlike in PES 2017 and 18 where only matches are used. Performance in matches would also yield not an increase in OVR but result in the acquisition of skill points to boost areas player desires. The increase in OVR makes the player develop so quickly. I had my player reaching 98 at the age of 20. The game just became boring after 22 years and I stopped playing. The development should be a bit realistic to feel the growth and development like in real life. A few more cut scenes like moments with coach, coming off the bench, pre match preparations, etc.
An on-pitch skill training, not just a menu |
Generally, the master league is not up to par with real life or even it's competitor, manager mode in FIFA 18. First thing that's puts me off and I'm sure other players too is that the transfer windows are not interesting. You don't have the big teams chasing your players. I would have in-form players chased by Minero, Galatasary and even more shockingly, Stoke City with huge sums of money. And it's not competitive too. I get only one bid for a player at a time, so it's difficult to know whether a deal would be better or not. I'd like to be able to control the transfers too, like imputing my own amount instead of the "reduce" or "increase amount" option.
Secondly, I love the inclusion of team spirit in the master league, showing how necessary it is even with very good players with high stats. However what bothers me is how player stats are seemingly thrown out the window when team spirit is low. It should have an impact alright but a player with 90+ passing or dribbling should be making passes easily but that's not the case with low team spirit. Poor ball possession and decision making and makes the game unnecessarily difficult. I think it should be moderate to factor in the player abilities. It can be frustrating to see your 90+ Ronaldo or the Neymars missing from close range with 90+ finishing when playing in coach mode.

Not much involvement in the transfers |
Pitch
Thee pitch looks amazing in cut scenes with sharp edged grasses and real-life greeness. However in normal play, it looks like a plain green surface and that doesnt make the game look attractive enough. In FIFA, since FIFA 15, the grass has looked amazing even at television view with player footsteps damaging the surface as the game goes on. That's one thing that makes the FIFA look so good. Its okay in PES 2018 but I feel they can do better. With the newly acquired Fox engine, there's so much potential for something like this to happen and I hope we get to see that in PES 2019

Scoreboards
I think that in PES 2019, there should be multiple scoreboards for the different leagues in the game. Even though there may not be any league signed by Konami, I want to see different generic scoreboards for the different leagues to create some diversity in the scoreboard. I hate having to see the same scoreboard the entire game and so that's one thing I really want to see in the next franchise
Goal celebrations
Aside from the default assigned goal celebration given to a player, the gamer should be able to perform other nicer celebrations with that player as in the FIFA series. No variations in the celebration and as such find myself not even celebrating the goal. One thing I looked forward to in FIFA is scoring a goal and performing slick goal celebrations to send my opponent nuts. It's something I'd really want to see in the new game.
More game modes
I would love to see new game modes in the new franchise with completely more exciting features and challenges. PES 2017 saw the first time inclusion of random selection match and that's a great feature. It was an interesting twist to the normal "play now" or friendly. Having a host of different players from 4 different teams and assembling them for a match is something I found very different and amazing. The co-op option looks awesome although I haven't tried it yet, because my most of my friends are adamant FIFA fans. I think it would have been a fun game mode though
More Licensed teams
The one thing that's been said most since like forever by Pes fans and that's probably why it's the last on this list. With the likes of PTEpatch, Pespatch, pesgalaxy, smoke patch, etc I've never had to feel the down side of few licensed teams. Despite that, I think in PES 2019 would be wonderful regardless of the UEFA license. The stadiums too saw a massive increase from 16 to 42. I hope it keeps increasing so it can create variations in the game.
All these are of priority to me and I hope Konami sees this and changes or consider my wants for the next game. Comment your suggestions and any recommendations you'd like to see in the new game

You sound like you know your stuff. I don't play the game but I think I'd like to have those minor upgrades in the update
